If you have any other underrated musicals you want to shout out, add them in the rbs! What’s not to love? Features Mariah Rose Faith, Dylan Saunders, absolute bangers, Jaimie Lynn Beatty, and Jeff Blim. The music is beautiful, the story is touching, and Dylan Saunders is singing his lungs out. This is a pop-rock musical about the lives of Vincent Van Gogh and his brother Theo, all the way up until Vincent’s death. Plot: If you’re a fan of Starkid, you’ll probably notice a few familiar faces in this cast. Has a canonically bi character, strong female characters, and absolute bangers. While it is a pretty heavy musical, it touches on important topics such as racism, sexual assault, sexuality, and addiction. The musical focuses on the Healy family, and their individual struggles. It’s a jukebox musical containing the music from Alanis Morissette’s iconic 90s album. However, Jagged Little Pill is more than just RENT 2.0. Plot: I’ve seen this musical compared to RENT quite a bit, which is fair. Has canon wlw, many strong female characters (only one male character is ever shown onstage), power ballads, a murder mystery, Wonu Ogunfowora, and girls belting their hearts out. A great whodunnit that blends the slasher genre of the 80s with a teenage drama. However, the night turns deadly quickly, and soon the cheerleaders are left with three of their friends dead and the murderer still at large. Plot: A high-school cheerleading team is having their annual team sleepover. Has canon wlw, Lesli Margherita, Lucas Steele, and more absolute bops. While it may seem cutesy and simple on the surface, Emojiland has a much deeper meaning than it appears to. For example, there’s a smiling face with depression and a nerd face who’s too smart for his own good. Emojiland is a completely different story about emojis in a phone who take one another at face value. Plot: No, this is not “The Emoji Movie: The Musical”. Has a canon non-binary character, a canon pansexual character, and a canon bi character, along with songs that are absolute bops and a kickass female empowerment message. Shakespeare, however, isn’t willing to let his wife take over the story entirely, and he has other plans. Shakespeare’s wife, Anne Hathaway, writes Juliet her own story and gives her some new friends. Plot: A jukebox musical about if Juliet hadn’t killed herself at the end of Romeo and Juliet. Since we’re all stuck inside and bored, I’ve put together some underrated and under-appreciated musicals to discover while you’re inside! 891 notes MaMusicals to Listen to in Quarantine!
